EMANATA Submissions
EMANATA is Conundrum Press’s Young Adult imprint.
Edited by award-winning children’s author Sal Sawler, this imprint is mandated to produce exceptional graphic novels for a young adult audience. EMANATA graphic novels rely on a seamless blend of words and pictures to tell compelling, character-driven fiction and non-fiction stories.
By focusing on work created by comic artists living in colonial Canada and striving for social equity, EMANATA seeks to introduce fresh, strong, and under-represented voices to the international young adult and graphic novel markets.
EMANATA is now OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!
To apply, please submit:
- 30 complete pages of comics
- A synopsis and artist’s statement (documents, video files, and audio recordings accepted)
- A biography that includes any related work and/or education (documents, video files, and audio recordings accepted)
Please email a low-resolution PDF and cover letter to sal@conundrumpress.com.
Notes: Emanata is mandated to focus on under-represented voices. For this reason, the imprint prioritizes submissions from Deaf and Disabled, BIPOC, and 2SLGBTQIA+ creators.
We do not assign illustrators to graphic novel scripts—submissions must come from author-illustrators or pre-established author-illustrator teams. While we will consider international teams, at least 50% of the team must live in colonial Canada.
Submission Deadline: June 1, 2023
